CASA QUINDE
|
Designed to be a primary, year-around residence, the ground floor of Casa Quinde has just over 2000 sq. feet of living space arranged for a quite comfortable life style in the following manner:
Rural retreat with spectacular mountain views ° Idyllic setting ° Communal gardens, fountains and fish ponds ° Traditional, rustic architecture with the modern comforts ° Gated entrance with 24 hour security ° Parking available on the grounds ° Translated into English from Spanish and Quichua… Casa Quinde means Hummingbird House, an acknowledgment to the proprietary hummingbirds constantly tending the flowers in the gardens surrounding the house. Here at an elevation of approximately 8,800 feet in Ecuador's Northern Highlands, 13 miles north of the Equator, the elevation and the proximity to the Equator have combined to provide a perfect year-round climate with daytime temperatures generally between 65 and 75 F (18.3 - 23.9C). This wonderful rustic casa privada is situated on the grounds of the El Monasterio de Cusín condominium complex, a part of the Hacienda Cusín estate. Hacienda Cusín, dating from 1602, is a first-class hostería (country inn) internationally acclaimed for its hospitality and ambiance. El Monasterio de Cusín (also a country inn and a small conference center) was constructed next to the main grounds of the Hacienda in 1995... in the years since, a total of five free-standing homes have been built, spread throughout the Monasterio's gardens. Casa Quinde is the largest of these five privately owned homes, tucked away at the back of the property in an absolutely stunning setting. Initial construction on the casa was completed in February of 2001; it was acquired by the current owners and re-named "Casa Quinde" in the Autumn of 2004. The dining room and kitchen enlargement was completed in the Summer of 2005. Ecuador's official currency is the US dollar. Electrical voltage (120 AC) and outlets (three prong) are the same as in North America. The tap water in Casa Quinde is potable - chlorinated by the hostería; additionally, for the comfort and reassurance of our guests, there is a dispenser for bottled water in the kitchen. Once you are inside the gates of the compound where Casa Quinde is located, you can see immediately that every effort has been made to ensure your comfort. That said, the entire complex itself is located in quite rural Ecuador and very occasionally we have found there is no running water, or no electricity, or no Internet connection. We have work-arounds for the first two, e.g. a bomba (a pump on a cistern) for tap water, and candles for light... but haven't as yet found a replacement for Internet service. (Such incidents are infrequent, really, and won't last long.) Should this occur during your stay just remind yourself that a big reason you are here, high in the rural Andes mountains of Ecuador, is for the adventure - and any of these inconveniences are just part of the adventure! (By the way, we do recommend you bring a flashlight, especially for walks after dark.) If you have any questions or would like further information and/or more photographs, please do not hesitate to contact us for a prompt response. |
